5 Minute writing exercise: Everything I recall about the chapter.
This chapter compares the 17th century to the 19th century to show the reader how visual imagery has changed visual representation on things such as the personal identity and self-portrait. This chapter covers self-portraits and the ‘visual pun’ which was used throughout the 18th and 19th century to change what the viewer believed and portrayed from the visual text. It also covers how the image of stereotypes have changed, changing the image of African American men and understanding the cliches and stereotypes that come with visual texts “a visual analysis rather than a scientific deduction”. It then goes on to show how the image of visual identity has rapidly changed over the last few years due to the changing image of the ‘selfie.’
